I tried the latest StaXrip (1.7) and according to Mediainfo 17.2 I am missing the HDR metadata after encode. I am looking to suggestions for other x265 GUI encoders that will retain 10 bit color, HDR metadata, and pass through ATMOS or TrueHD. Plus, CloneBD does not let me adjust the x265 quality (Constant Rate Factor) or presets. I have tried CloneBD but for some reason it also did not pass through the HDR metadata. I have also confirmed with MediaInfo that it does not retain the HDR metadata. My understanding is it converts 10 bit video to 8 bit and then back to 10 bit if 10 bit is selected. I cannot use Handbrake for this because it has an 8 bit pipe. I would like to compress the video but retain UHD resolution, 10 bit color, HDR metadata, and ATMOS or TrueHD 7.1 audio. I have tested this format on my TVs and Rokus.
I would like to encode them as x265 10 bit encoded MKVs. I have ripped a few UHD Blu-rays using AnyDVD and MakeMKV. I have always used Handbrake to encode my DVD and Blu-ray rips. I don't think the newer encodes are much faster, but better quality and allow multiple encodes at the same time on the high end cards.I use Serviio to stream x264 encoded MP4s to Samsung smart TVs (some 4k) and Rokus (also 4K) from my home server. Id take h.265 normal or fast over h.264Ģ00-300 fps is pretty fast, you probably won't get more speed that that, but you can have multiple encodes going at the same time. Id try using FFmpeg if possible, gives you a good amount more options when it comes to hardware encoding.Ĭhanging the preset to fast or normal will speed it up a good amount. I am getting around 200-300 fps depending on settingsĮDIT - h.265 has lowered the average fps down 25-50 fps so I will be sticking with h.264 as that has seemed to work the best for me, but am still curious to know if better hardware would help

I change the video encoder to h.264 nvec or h.265 nvec I am currently using a Fast1080 ( modified ) I dont change the dimensions or filters, but in video settings
What codec is the MKV file in? If its from a blu-ray its probably mpeg2 or h.264 I have a 1080 I could test with, but I think you can get hundreds of fps if configured correctly(have the gpu do the video decoding so the uncompressed data doesn't have to go over the pcie bus). What framerate are you getting with the current setup.
We don't know how good amds new encoder will be yet, but it will likely be better than h.265 or av1 on the newer cards. MIght as well use h.265, better quality for a given bitrate.
